This piece is a bit of a surreal mystery set in the desert. I’ve got these tiny people climbing out of a hole in the sand, each one making off with a huge, shiny jewel. But if you look in the background, things get weird. There are these giant Egyptian-style temples and two massive figures watching everything. A cheetah and a person draped in buffalo hide with a literal jewel for a face. It’s got this vibe that the people think they’re getting rich, but they might actually be stumbling into a curse. I wanted to play with the scale to show that the "wealth" they found is much bigger and more dangerous than they realize.
